Dear Cross Country Team,
I am sad I missed the picture! Yalla, Next Time!
You guys were all great! I really enjoyed getting to know you better during practice. It was a highlight of my day to come down to the track and see you all willing to push yourselves a little further each time. Willing to run that extra lap, to shout a cheer to one of your mates, to encourage that runner who is about to drop out….
I appreciated your team spirit, your sense of humor, your perseverance, your commitment and discipline. Each one of you has so much potential and so much to give to our community and so much to teach others about running races. I was thinking about this, our years here at Kings are like a long distance race, and the skills that we need in our Life Race are the same as what we were learning in the XC training sessions. We had to be patient with ourselves, we had to understand and know our strengths and abilities, we had to take care of our bodies, we had to train hard, we had to keep going even when we felt like we did not want to, we had to sometimes force ourselves to show up and commit, we had to strengthen our minds as well as our bodies… we also all needed each other at some point to make the run more enjoyable or more bearable. How similar is life? I hope that you will carry this experience with you as this season ends and know that you are truly unique members of King’s. I am very proud and privileged to have had the chance to work with you all this term.
